Children's questions and answers:
IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
"Single is better, for the simple reason that I wouldn't want to change no diapers. Of course, if I did get married, I'd just phone my mother and have her come over for some coffee and diaper-changing."
Kirsten, age 10
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
"Tell your wife that she looks pretty even if she looks like a truck."
Ricky, age 10
Did you know?
Winston Churchill once said "The pessimist sees
difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees
opportunity in every difficulty."
Which are you? Optimist or pessimist? Think before you answer.
Behind the meaning of a Favorite Christmas Carol!
During the period of 1558 and 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone, possibly a priest, during that period wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. Recall in previous articles I spoke of the "Kaona" in written words of Hawaiians? (Hidden meaning) This song has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a kaona or hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol had a code word for a religious reality, which the children could remember. Many of you may know this, to those that don't, here is what I found on "12 days of Christmas".
The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three french hens stood for Faith, Hope and Love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah of law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
The six geese - a - laying stood for the six days of Creation.
Seven swans a swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a milking were the eight Beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit:
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.
The ten Lords a leaping were the Ten Commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles Creed.
Answer the "why" in any situation and truth emerges.
Business Tip: Did you know? First rule of business is to keep everything simple and logical. There is no rule no. #2. Anything else are guides. Tell/write/plan/organize it so people find it simple, logical, doable, NOW! Many business have failed because of not taking this simple rule to heart.

*********** THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: My classes on Diversity do not include the word "tolerance!" I prefer "inclusion." Why? Tolerance implies you are putting up with someone or thing. Inclusion means I can participate. See the difference? Subtle change, welcoming posture. The medicine wheel is as important a symbol to the Native American Peoples as is the cross, menora or koran.

MASTERING THE ART OF LIVING
By Nani Aki Linder Wolves are wonderful creatures and possibly the most misunderstood in todays modern world. For me they signify strength, loyalty, wisdom and a knowledge of ancient origin far beyond mere mortal understanding. It is a symbol I love so you may often see pictures of white animal creatures on these pages this next year. As you read and absorb the content, find the insights or kaona's. Remember, Kaona's are the hidden or deeper meanings. In 2005, our newsletter will be informational and a means to study many diverse cultures. Much of the pearls of wisdom you read written by myself or other dedicated and insightful writers are not found in books. My intend is to gently lead you beyond the norm and into the art of "thinking, seeking and finding the I"am being each of you are." Where do we look? Within! I invite you to release your power within To begin, lets examine this prose of tips series which I use to teach from. Some are fairly easy to comprehend, others will provoke your thinking. It is my intent to provoke thinking as often as possible. As always, take what you need and discard the rest. This is your life my friends, it is not a dress rehearsal.

University Of Life Tip Sheet Series
By Nanipuaaalaomaililaulii Aki Linder
· When you live with kindness you live with the power to make a difference in every life that you touch.
· Most limitations are defined by the energy you give it.
· On Clarity; whatever is holding you back is doing so because you have accepted it as something that's holding you back.
Thinking deeper; imagine what would happen if you accepted with just as much certainty the very real possibility of moving ahead! Try it!
· Did you know that there is nothing outside of you that forces you to be happy and nothing that prevents you from being happy? Exploring this beyond the obvious; the decision to be happy and thankful for where you are can do more to move you ahead than any resentment, discontent, or huhu (anger) etc. Defending this position further; happiness is yours when you decide to live with it. Indeed, true happiness does not demand anything from you, it just is.
· Real reality is what you choose to do with your thoughts, actions, attitudes, perceptions. Going deeper; let us examine the thoughts that the value you look for and the value you expect is the value you will find. Defending this perception; when one goes beyond the self and worry is replaced by compassion and caring fear is replaced by productive energy. When this energy is set free, despair is overwhelmed by love. Live "beyond the self" and be astonished at how many limitations simply vanish. * Read this again and think about it.
· Enlightenment is not magic. It is in fact very simple and ordinary. Those who practice Zen say, "Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water." The lesson is this; all results flow from certain ways of structuring your internal world. Thinking beyond the obvious; if I think I can, I can! But I must take firm action. In reality, when you change the belief, eliminate the internal struggle and feed the self what you want, that will lead to happiness. Make sense?
· Every spoke in the wheel is important, is more than a cliché. It is the map of reality. Why? Every result has its price.
These tips are alot to absorb in one setting. Each month I will add a few more until we finish this series. If you have questions or comments on any of this so far I invite you to please email me at once nani@universityoflife.info. I will print your questions and my answers in next months newsletter. If you wish a private answer so state in your email.

My philosophy of life: Ready? No matter what happens to me, I bit the damn bullet and move on. Know why? It assures me of a future. Quitting is not an option in my life.
Nani Aki Linder
The Final Word:
Remember dear hearts, the homeless and hungry have this problem everyday not just holidays. When you reach out in love to another human being, the entire universe rejoices. It only takes a moment to extend a hand of kindness and it is most meaningful when it is done without fan fair or recognition. The reward and blessing comes in the act done quietly. Promise me that you will call your aging parent or grandparent and say hello and make sure they are warm and have enough to eat. Better yet, spend an hour or two visiting.
