Pause and pray for our country and the global fight on terrorism!
"Tomorrow is 9/11 a day that horrified, mesmerized and kicked our collective psyches into high alert. Yesterday I saw on the news that one of the dictionary companies would not be printing the word terrorist in their dictionary. The reason, it is unlikely that journalists would use the word, they like to use politically correct jargon. In University Of Life & Hope systems, we like to call it as we see it.
Ladies and Gentlemen, on 9/11 extremist Muslem terrorists flew our own planes into New York twin towers, our Pentagon, and because courageous Americans over took these terrorists and crashed the third plane into a field in Pennsylvania these Americans saved other lives and lost theirs. We have no quarrel with the Muslem people of faith who live peaceful lives but the extremist elements are dangerous and separate issues.
Please remember to take a quiet moment tomorrow and pray for peace for our country and the world. Remember as well, the Russian families who were attacked this week by Muslem extremist terrorists and the souls of their lost loved ones. Remember our troops who fight there so as not to fight here and those lost in combat so we might enjoy doing what we do everyday at home. Our leaders who work 24/7 to make tough decisions everyday need our support and prayers. If we do not win this battle against terrrorism, the rest of the "want lists" are moot. That is reality. Do we like it? NO! Hate is in a class all its own. It is very different from the ignorance of discrimination and prejudice. So when we fight hate we have to think outside of the box. 9/11 changed our lives and being alert is now as necessary as breathing air. It is truly as simple and as hard as that. Good news is, Americans when united, are unbeatable.
E ko makou i loko o ka lani, E ho'opakele no na'e ia makou i ka ino. Amene (Our father in heaven, deliver us from evil amen)

Point to Ponder: Where do your talents lie? Since this is your life and not a dress rehearsal lets explore what you can do to bring out those hidden talents.........Ready?
How often have you buried your talents at the expense of doing what is 'right'? Lets not be wobbly, be truthful to yourself.
Do you find yourself wishing for something else yet you aren't using all
of your God-given talents or available resources to help in achieve it? key: 4th R Responsibility
Action Point:
What steps can you take to explore or amplify what you are good at?
Hint: Do you find it easier to do what is expected of you.rather than what you would like to do?
Let's try this: Take 10 minutes every morning to challenge yourself to do something that excites, invgorates and moves you in the direction of your heartfelt expertise. The goal is to eventually work your way into taking the first hour of the day as your "hour of power". email me if after you have tried this exercise and let me know what ideas you came up with and words to inspire others that we can print next issue. nani@universityoflife.info

Comments from readers on last month's issue:
Dearest Nani, Does your newsletter ever get as far as the White House? If not, it should. The President would be ecstatic to know that he has such dedicated, knowledgeable people in his corner. There is so much wisdom and common sense here; I only wish I had just a fraction of it.Thank you for getting this out to us all.
Your friend, Barbara
Hi Barbara, Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) for the kind words. I am glad you liked the article on asking the why and is this true . We provoke thinking and reveal one way of making decisions that provide clarity, focus and depth based on facts as one researches and knows them. No I do not advise the president, he is working full time and have people of a higher pay scale then mine to assist. My grandfather taught me to think, reason and ask "is it true before I believe what others say." I am happy to be your friend.............Nani
###
Just got finished reading the newsletter - it was excellent. MB Thanks MB....Nani
WOW!! I can't wait to dive in and read.I'm saving it for this evening when my mind is quiet. There are no accidents--and it's a pleasure to "be" with you.
Warmly,
~Deb
Hi Deb: How nice of you to write me, I enjoyed so much our conversation and look forward to meeting with you personally. Nani

Linda Miller is a friend whose husband Jim just had a successful heart transplant. They are profiles in courage and I thought her letter would be of interest to you. It is printed with her permission. Nani
Hi Nani,
First, I feel so privileged to be able to take the few minutes to read your
newsy letter. Jim received his new heart on July 28. He was back home one
week later and has had an astonishing recovery. Somehow life will return to
a regular routine and I can do simple things like read my e-mail!
I had the thought when you commented on voting that we vote every day when
we choose to do business with someone. (I'm applying this to my industry,
as well). The bottom line in all instances is "trust". I believe that most
elections are based on a popularity contest. Not supporting the trustworthy
person. This means that the actual character of the elected is less than
desired because they are striving to be liked, rather than standing for
right vs. wrong. Charisma seems to count more than principles. Does it go
back to a lack of strength and ability to state bottom line issues? Fear of
not being liked? Trying to please everyone? Or was the old adage "we all
want to be fooled" really a truth? Can any leader have both traits--be
liked and still be able to stand for goodness? (Pres. Reagan comes to
mind--but even his children didn't see or understand his incredible strength)
It is certainly a quandary--but I do believe that Geo. Bush has had the
fortitude to stand for his beliefs and provide admirable leadership. I hurt
inside when he is ridiculed--but reality says that anyone willing to firmly
stand on their principles will be poked and prodded.
Yes, vote for me. I'm the best Realtor in town........but am I willing to
risk clientele by being honest and straightforward. Ask the Realtors that
lie to sellers to get their listing. You see, I believe that trust is a BIG
issue--in all areas of our lives. Because I teach these principles it's
easy for me to" talk the talk"--daily practice of these truths is easier
the more I make the difficult decisions on a day by day basis. Talking &
walking...........what most politicians find difficult.
Thanks for letting me spout off again........!!

Business Tip Article
Are You Ready For The Publishing Revolution?
by John Colanzi
http://www.thesimplesystem.net
Writing has traditionally been considered a solitary craft. You wrote you article or book in seclusion. You submitted it to an editor or publisher and prayed it would be published.
Along comes the Internet and the monsters out of the cage. You now have the ability to self publish your work. You can throw up a Blog, hook up to an RSS feed and syndicate your writing.
You can form online communities with other writers. Readers can give immediate feedback on your work. You can promote your work in the virtual book stores such as Amazon.
The Internet has become a writer's paradise.
With the advent of the Internet, you no longer are limited as a writer,. With a little research you can become a writer/publisher. Think of the possibilities.
Every word you write can travel the globe in the blink of an eye. Why would you want to be a publisher?
* You can make money before your book is even written.
Before the Internet, writers had to find ways to support themselves while working on their novels or stories. Now if you've got a book that will take any length of time to
complete, you can still make money by joining affiliate programs for books by other authors.
* You can start an online newsletter.
What an advantage you have over writers of the past. With your newsletter, your readers get to know you and your work. You have a waiting audience for the day your book is
released.
* You can start your own Blog.
You can plug your Blog into an RSS feed and your work can be accessed on the entire network.
* You can start your own affiliate program.
Sites such as Clickbank take the hassle out of having an affiliate program. They process the orders and pay commissions to your affiliates. It's a turnkey system for under $50. Your affiliates are an army of salesmen ready to promote your work around the globe. They can reach more markets than you could on your own. It's leverage in action.
* You can build a theme oriented site drawing readers and writers from around the world. It's like having your own Disneyland for writers.
* You can set up your own autoresponder course geared to your market. Educating and selling on autopilot.
* You can create free e-books. Take a few of your chapters and create the book as a preview. You're giving readers enough information to decide whether they want to buy your book.
You can also add links to your website, Blog and other books in the free book. .
* You can write for the online newsletters in your target market.
As an ezine writer there are times I've had an article circulated to millions of readers in a single week.
* You can allow webmasters to host your articles on their site.
Imagine thousands of websites promoting your work.
Think it can't happen. Think again.
Without even realizing it was happening, my articles are published on 4000 websites at any given time. Most of those articles are there for the duration.
Imagine what you could accomplish if you put some effort into self promotion.
I've just scratched the surface of the possibilities.
The difference between being a writer or a writer/publisher is just a shift in mindset. If you're willing to get out of your comfort zone, the skies the limit.
There's a cartoon that illustrates the mindset of a winner.
There's a little boy throwing the football with his father. His father looks at him and says, "Son, with a little practice, you can be making the big money they're paying
professional football players."
The little boy smiles and looks at his father and says, "Dad, I don't want to be a football player. I want to be the man who can afford to pay all those salaries."
From the mouth of babes.
It's in your hands. Do you want to stay in your comfort zone and limit your possibilities, or do you want to expand your thinking and build a publishing empire?
In the immortal words of Shakespeare,
"Why, then the world's mine oyster, Which I with sword will open."
Is the world your oyster? If not maybe it's time you expanded your thinking.
Wishing You Success,
John Colanzi

Thank you John, this is a fine and simple, doable project for anyone who wishes to embrace the power of simple and in the words of the little boy above with the "winners mindset"........."I want to be the man who can afford to pay those salaries!" Sage wisdom indeed but my friends nothing is automatic. You must develop the burning desire to have that which you want, then look to the ends of your sleeves and go get it. John can help you.I invite you to check out his website.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Praise is the cornerstone of a strong work force. It only takes a minute to open your door, walk to your employee and say "I am so happy you work here, What can I do to make things go better for you? Do you have all that you need? Thanks for doing a terrific job!" Nani Linder
In my opinion, when you can do this often, you have mastered the art of building loyalty on a scale second to none. Why? You have remembered that there are two accounts in business and life, people and profit, when you put people first, money follows. Bonus: You have a loyal workforce that will walk on water for you.

Spirit of Hope Recognition for September
The courageous people of Russia in a tiny village who lost tremendous life this past week. For the people who rallied against terrorists by marching and showing their solidarity to defeat terrorist and terrorism globally. Freedom is not free. Our hearts and prayers go out to the citizens of Russia and in particular for the souls of the lost particularly the children who died and those still fighting for theirs in hospital. We honor those who survived and the relatives who mourn. Mau ke aloha pumehana.
The wonderful people of Florida who have weathered two mighty hurricanes and are bracing for a possible third. Hurricanes are serious acts of nature and all citizens of this land will be asked to donate and note our government will be allotting billions for Florida's recovery, and victims of forest fires this year.
This month we honor and recognize two nations of multi cultural courageous people and send them all our beacon and shining spirit of HOPE.

Money Integrity: Teach Your Children Well
© 2004 Darlene Arechederra
'Live so that when your children think of fairness and
integrity, they think of you.' -- H. Jackson Brown, Jr.--
We think of integrity as doing the right thing when no
one is looking. Does this hold true for money, too?
Share with your children the money values you'd like
them to carry into adulthood. We have opportunities
to teach our children, even in unexpected ways!
Consider a few quick scenarios.
1. You find a $100 bill as you enter a local grocery
store. Would you ask Customer Service if anyone has
reported losing any money recently, and what amount it
was? 2. You arrive home and discover a puppy sitting on your
front doorstep. He has no tags on him. You bring him in
out of the cold and keep him for the night. The next
day, you discover his particular breed is worth $1800.
Would you attempt to locate his owners as you might if
he were a mutt? 3. You place a health & beauty order through a coworker,
and she mistakenly thinks you've already paid her for
it. Would you give her the money you owe anyway, or
would you keep quiet? 4. You and your family have just eaten a meal out. Due
to several factors, it was not as enjoyable as you had
hoped. The bill arrives, and you notice some items were
left off the bill. Would you pay it without saying
anything? 5. You're living a frugal lifestyle. You agree to join
family members for a meal out to celebrate mom's
birthday. Do you order frugally, yet chip in a fair
share for mom's meal? Or do you skip contributing to
mom's meal and have others cover the entire portion? 6. Your last paycheck was $600 more than it should have
been. While deciding whether to notify Payroll at work,
your spouse spends the entire $600. Do you call Payroll
anyway, knowing they'll probably deduct the money from
each of your next few paychecks? It will leave you no
money for several weeks. 7. You're selling your old clunker. Do you disclose any
problems you're having with it? Does your answer remain
the same regardless of whether your buyer is male or
female? 8. You discover that someone you dislike at work
received a much bigger raise than you. Do you share the
amount of his/her raise with your friends and family?
9. You purchase an e-book online -- it was exactly what
you were looking for. A week later, you're feeling a
money pinch. Do you ask for your money back on the
e-book, even though it more than met your needs?
Children notice the decisions we make on a daily basis.
Why not teach them how to develop money integrity --
through your own interactions and decisions!
Do you have a scenario you'd like to share? Please
email it to me. I'd love to hear from you.

Reflective moment: This is an article written from a woman who has financial savey and writes in a style that makes me smile often and I do her recommendations as well. Darlene is a success story as was presented from John's article on writing on the Internet. Read her story then reflect ask yourself what can I do to save more, help my kids learn about the value of money and the integrity that each of us learns to live in a free society of civility.
