 Did you know?

Expectation not followed by action, is hoping. And hoping has never achieved very much only specific action achieves!

Lets think deeper!

Release any expectations you have of how you think your dreams will come true.  Yet, with every flowing fiber of your being, expect that they will.  Hint: busy your self enjoying who and where you already are.   Meaning: In the flow of life, Creator can help you best when you set no limitations.  Nothing improves in life unless YOU DO.

MEET A MAGNIFICENT WOMAN SERIES

by Nani Aki Linder

Her name is Gita!

Gita Hatcher Human Resources Specialist, City Of Spokane

When Gita entered the room it was her eyes that caught my attention, then her smile and genuine spirit.  It is very rare indeed to meet a person whose convictions drip from their pores. I liked her instantly! She is bright, energetic, takes her work very seriously, and reading her vitae today I saw very impressive credentials.  Credentials got her in the door, her performance and depth of wisdom has kept her there and management must be looking at her seriously for greater responsibilities.  If they aren't, here's a hint!

Gita is a Native of India and became a United States Citizen in 1982.  Married and the mother of three, she ponders,   "Apathy is what I think is missing in Diversity today.  People think things are alright and they aren't. I would work on changing apathy first."  She went on, "I've always wanted to do something to positively affect the lives of people. Equity, fairness and justice are principles I try to live by so I started out my career working as a social worker providing services to the economically disadvantaged, persons with disabilities, refugees, minorities and women.  When I came to work for the city of Spokane, I brought all of these experiences and lessons I learnt with me.   I believe I can make a valuable impact on the lives of the VERY VALUABLE people who work here."  See what I mean about impressive?  Gita places value in people first, with colleagues and clients she serves daily.

What does family mean to Gita?  Everything!  She has ingrained Asian wisdom where family embraces not only existing family but her sacred ancestors as well.  Gita says, "They and their prayers are with me everywhere I go".  Respect and love of culture and her country are evident as she spoke.  Her wise aspiration of wanting to be seen as someone who always tries to do the right thing is evident in her quest as a woman to; "look at myself in the mirror and be comfortable with the woman I 'am!"

Gita is enriched by her principle that everyone is loved by God and so she seeks to find God in everyone.  What recommendation does Gita have for women?  "We live in a man's world still, so we must try to understand the rules they play by, being equal partners with them and help them at the same time to understand who we are without compromising our womanliness."  Bravo Gita!

Authors memo:  I shall be featuring a Magnificent Woman every month.  Be sure to read every issue because the next profile could be YOURS!  Imagine you featured in this column next month.  My next book is about Magnificent women who have made a difference, this new series are previews of coming attractions.  If you wish to recommend a woman, write and tell me who and why.  Not to worry,  males are included we offer inclusive an equal opportunity newsletter.  nani@universityoflife.info

Summon The Warriors
By Nani Aki Linder

It is heartwarming to know so many people care.  Read a few of the notes sent to us! Yes Christine and I did receive hate mail, we chose our option to use the delete button.  We do however print opposing opinions when we receive them, dialogue is a good thing and welcomed.   Here we go!

Dear Nani.

The newsletter was most interesting.  It is a sad comment of our time that children of our country are so disfranchised when there is wealth and knowledge available.   Our children, so many, are treated as throw always.  How sad, our nation and other nations have become morally deficient when it comes to treatment of human kind.  Ahhh it is heartbreaking.   I am curious and would like more information about the "Summon the Warriors International Women's Summit"   I have had interest in women's issues of various kinds.  I am with a Prison Ministry now out of our Spokane Diocese, and I seek out any avenue that may be of value to gain any knowledge to help me in this endeavor. Take care and God Bless.    Rose  Spokane, Washington

Hello Nani,
What a beautiful day it is here in northeastern Montana.  I hope you too have noticed what a wonderful day it is.  Things are turning green, spring is struggling to take over and winter is resisting.
I have forward your April newsletter to some friends and asked them to read it and consider joining the call to Women Warriors.
I am joining your call for Warrior Women to step up to the plate and do whatever I can to help our children.
Please provide more information on how the group intends to proceed so I can make plans to attend.
                                          Regards, Iris  Montana

Nani,

Again, I enjoyed your newsletter . How may I help sponsor a woman to attend your summit?

Thinking of you kindly,

     Hello Nani,
I would be most interested in learning more about, and in participating in,
the "Summon the Warriors Int'l Women's summit" that you have in mind -
                     many blessings,

                       Robin Hammer, Colorado

          Nani,

You must sing your song.  You must share that which
wants to be allowed out to bless the lives of others.

Let nothing deter you and you make yourself stronger!

        Aloha,  Burt Kingman, Az.

Ah, Nani,

Your newsletter tears at my heart.  When we hear about the American Indians, or now as we call them Native Americans, we admit that this once great people were robbed of everything and forced into crowded reservations, and say to ourselves, "What a shame; how could we destroy a race of people."  Then we go about our business and feel satisfied that we've spoken our minds to a select few and feel good that we were not one of those early Americans who massacred thousands, stole their land and diminished their importance. Your newsletters always manages to open our eyes to the way it really is and makes us ashamed that we have so much and turn our backs on those who have so little.

I cannot attend the Summit but am hoping to be able to sponsor a woman who is able to.  Please let me know what I can do.

God bless you, Nani, and keep you healthy to do His work.

My love and hugs,
Barbara  Pennsylvania

Thank you Barbara for taking action and sending your $100 contribution.  I feel so blessed you are the first Barbara.  You heard my interview with KDKA Susie Barbour and have been a faithful friend ever since.  I am so honored by your friendship and genuine caring for other human beings.  Mahalo nui loa from this humble heart and on behalf of the Native children who need more people like you, to hear their voices.  Nani

Nani,
All is well, my friend. Let us begin the work we are called to do.
Iam beginning the process of evaluation at this time and will be able to
move forward with a date and place soon.
I will call upon our own warriors and summon our forces.
In light and joy,
~Deb  Executive Director  Women's Summit Washington

Hi Nani,
I'd like to add my commentary to different sections of your April newsletter. Starting with this:
"It is time to yank off the yoke of fear and embrace a vision of HOPE.  It is time to join hands and diligently work to open the eyes of Reservation non Indian educators and all those who would touch our children's lives in the school setting.  Why?  Because our children and grandchildren are worthy.  ALL AMERICAN INDIAN CHILDREN have the right to enjoy equally from the banquet of life."

First I would say I agree wholeheartedly to "it is time to yank off the yoke of fear and embrace a vision of Hope". We all have been afforded that hope in our Savior over 2000 years ago.

Our children, all of them, are our legacy, and should all equally have the right to enjoy equally from "the banquet of life". I guess I was very unaware that this type of abuse was still going on and still being perpetrated upon our native children.  It is also a necessity to understand a culture before going in and attempting to become a part of that culture in education or in any other way. As we've entered Afghanistan and Iraq, our soldiers are being taught the culture. How can we implement change without first understanding? I like what a friend of mine online who is active in stopping horse slaughter said to me and I believe it rings true in any area we want to change in a positive, thriving manner: let us each be a voice in the chorus. One person may not think that they can do anything -which is apathetic in nature I think -but if you join your one voice to the others who desire to thrive in peace and a vision of Hope, then we become a chorus. A chorus can be and will be heard. To not serve because of fear, let me share that fear is but the opposite of faith and love.

As Nani has stated all through this newsletter we are all here to serve others for God's higher purpose and will. We are not here for ourselves, we are here to serve Him by serving others. I heard a quote recently that I will paraphrase here since I don't remember the exact words: If all we do is for ourselves, when we die, that all dies with us BUT if we do for others and serve others, we leave behind a legacy.
In fragrant wellness,
Kim Bloomer, Owner
Aspenbloom,
Albequerque, N.Mexico

Aay Nani,

FAQ:

1. Why do you Nani not apply for a Minority Women's Business Certification, 8a Disadvantaged or 501c3 status so you can  apply for grants?.

Fair questionThis is my answer:  "It is my intent to set the example that people of color, women, the handicapped can and do make it on their own with what is between their ears, true grit, and integrity by competing for job opportunities to pay our own way.  It is a matter of personal honor for me to not be compromised by taking grants or what some may term special interest "freebies."  If it is to be it's up to me has cultural meaning for me.  If I don't have enough to eat, I better work harder and smarter tomorrow are words of wisdom I grew up with.  Words from our grandfathers lips to my ears.  They are wise words and address "when you teach me to fish I own myself.  When you give me the fish you own me.  Your giving me the fish keeps me dependent on you and not myself.  It is the way of the Warrior to walk with integrity, teach by example and bring as many people with you on this journey as is possible.  WE WERE ONCE THE CHILDREN!  This is our passionate mission, Nanipuaaalaomaililaulii and the White Raven to walk the talk".    This is a non-negotiable issue for me.

2. So why do we accept donations?  Again fair questionThis is my answer;  As folks respond it enables us to pull together any amount from fifty cents a hundred a thousand or more to assist with scholarships for people who cannot afford to pay the entrance to the summit.  It pays for the texts, experts, expenses for the summit, meals  and materials.  This is the first time we have asked for donations.  Donations can be in-kind service, volunteering, or financial.  We seek talent as well.  (I am willing to speak and earn as much as possible myself so please refer me to those you know of with paying speaking/training needs).  The donation allows people who wish to lend support financially to do so.  Waiting is delay, delay is denial.

While I personally feel squishy asking, no man or woman is an island.  So we accept very humbly for the benefit of uplifting the lives of Native children.  This generosity begins the process of teaching teachers needed truths about Native culture through Cultural Immersion and Be a Star programs. It is about promoting Thriving and Respect of a great heritage.

If you have a question feel free to click here and ask away. nani@universityoflife.info

Action Exercise For May 2005:

I trust that you have mastered the original exercise of sitting in front of a white wall (refer to our March issue if you have not).  Let's proceed.  This month I will be sharing two exercises.  Enjoy.

#1 that NEW learners are to do and

#2 that those more advanced who have studied with me before or are advanced on their own can do.

#1 NEWThose who are beginners must master the art of focus and concentrate as we began in March.  To go to the next level.  Go to your room, take a seat, do not recline, place your feet on the floor, hands relaxed.  Look at the white wall, clear your mind, let all thoughts leave you now. Relax, feel you body relaxing, your muscles and blood flow quiet. count to 5 breath in 3 breath out.  When you are relaxed, close your eyes and begin to visualize a shimmering white room, see a white table in the white room and on that table visualize a delicate purple rose.  See your self walk to it, pick up the rose, see its delicate petals. imagine, now inhale its lovely fragrance.  Keep Breathing, in 5 counts, expel 3 counts.  Keep your eyes closed, breath in 5 expel 3, experience the smell of the delicate rose. Now place the rose back on the table.  keep breathing 5 in 3 out, 5 in 3 out.  Turn back now and look at the rose, see its aura, breath see a faint aura first of white then lavender, now purple now yellow around the rose.  How calm and wonderful you feel watching the living aura of this delicate rose. Breath, breath.  Let the rose begin to fade as breathing you leave the shimmering white room. Now, breath slowly, slowly open your eyes.  Note how relaxed you feel.  It is a good idea to take a 15-20 minute rest time.  Stretch and yawn.............

Advanced Group

#2.  Those who are advanced breath slowing in and out 5 in 3 out. Take your position in your chair, no slouching, feet on the floor, hands relaxed facing up lotus.  Look at your white wall, visualize a favorite plant.  Project it on the white wall.  Take note of its leaves, texture and flowers.  Inhale its fragrance.  Visualize this beautiful creation projected on the wall.  Now bring your plant from the seen to the unseen.  In your minds eye, take your plant back to its beginning, if you need to go into the silence of "I" do it now.  Bring your plant to its seed, breath in slowing, breath out slowly.  Plant the tiny seed, water it, care for it, place it in the suns rays, see the seed burst into a living thing.  It is alive now and searches for the means to grow.  See the roots penetrating the soft warm earth, watch the shoots sprout in all directions.  See the cells divide and subdivide.  See the millions of cells.  Observe the intelligence it knows what it needs and how to get it.  It knows what it is to become.  Keep moving your seed forward see the tiny stems form, watch the buds form as you watch note delicate leaves the petals beginning to open, the veins of life, concentrate intently, become conscious of the delicate fragrance, feel the gentle breeze on your checks watch it gently sway your plant and flower which you have created in your minds eye.  Place it next to your plant on the wall.....Relax and enjoy the serenity you have created.  When you are ready, bring yourself slowing back......open your eyes, look at the white wall, see your garden.   Breath, yawn, stretch....It is wise to rest for 15-20 minutes....if you were able to do this...well done.  If not try it again tomorrow.  Practice everyday for 15 minutes.......

Point:  When you enable yourself to make your vision clear and complete your visualization you enable yourself to enter the spirit of a thing.  It will be very real to you as you learn to concentrate and visualize the "process of living from its beginning".  Whether you are focused or concentrating on health, flowers, a complicated business or other problems of life.  Every success is accomplished by persistent concentration and mastery of life.  It is not magic, it is the science of mastery of the self.

                                              ###

Continuing with our Tip Sheet series we add four new tidbits of hope which we invite you to reflect on, take what you need and discard the rest.

University Of Life Tip Sheet Series part 6

By Nanipuaaalaomaililaulii Aki Linder

   1.  Successful business people are most successful when they keep in touch with the thoughts of other successful or like minded business.

     2.  If I gave you $50, and you lost $20 - you would be very
disappointed wouldn't you?   Yet you are still $30 better off
than before I gave it to you.  Make sense?
Point:  We all spend too much time focusing on what we haven't
got or what we have lost, rather than focusing on what we
want and how we can go about getting it.

     3. Thinking Deeper: You see it's not what you haven't got that stops
you  from  getting to where you want to go. it's your focus on what you
already have that you don't want that holds you back. That's quite a
complicated sentence so re-read it again just to make sure that you get
      it .

     4.  The roads out of poverty and failure can only be accessed by an attitude that
is positive - and your mind can only help you if you give it positive
thoughts to work with.   When you look at every problem as challenges
to your abilities then it will be easier to be enlightened vs stressed.

As Winston Churchill once said "The pessimist sees
difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees
opportunity in every difficulty."

The Final Word:

Our mission is that each human being who has flourished living in the United States of America become mobilized to assist the uplifting of Native Americans and most particularly the children.  As pragmatist we say, "if only 10,000 out of the millions who live here would do as Barbara did and send a donation for the Warrior Summits the mission would begin full speed ahead.  (So we only need 9,999) more to stand up and either

1.sign up for and attend the summit  2. send donations  3. so we might give scholarships and pay for all the texts and  staff the entire program 4.  volunteer to assist and help us organize an event.

Here is what you can do today:

These complaints range from bullying to outright violence and overt intimidation so fierce that many children are forced to leave school.   It is no surprise that in many mid-west states, the drop-out rate of Indian children is extreme, even in grades 6,7,and 8.
