Aloha e everyone and welcome to March 10, 2005 of Kaleo O Nani Newsletter!

Believe you are worthy of abundance.  Believe you are whole, perfect, strong, loving, harmonious and happy.  Believe you can be what you will to be!  Believe you are worthy of the best life has to offer!  Believe in all the world there is only one, unique, special YOU!  It is all true, true, true!

This one flawless thought process can bring you happiness and success beyond your wildest imagination.  But you must believe.  You must replace negative thought processing and engage positive infusion of what you do want into your psyche.  Simple fact. Hard won reality. Why?  Humans analyze so much looking for the "trick" or "flaw" and often fail to engage the value of simple belief!

Believing in the Human Spirit Of Hope,

Did you know?  A'ole means NO!  Tiny word.  Often one so hard for folks to say even when it is the correct response without feeling the need to explain or worse.  Feeling guilt.  Know what?  No! is a definitive sentence.  Try saying it in Hawaiian language if it helps; pronounce Ah-oh-lay.  A'ole!  No!

Congratulations to my Cousin Paul Baldwin Robins age 12

Paul was just featured as a guest on the Oprah show.  Paul sent a video to Oprah in the "wildest dreams" episode.  He was rewarded by the Oprah show when they surprised him at their home in Makaha, Oahu. Lights, cameras and dancers met him on his 12th birthday.  Paul and his parents were flown to LA where in studio he met Maria Carey and Randy Jackson who coached him in a song written by Maria for the Oprah show.  Paul was then flown to Chicago to appear on the Oprah show March 2.  His dream was to meet Oprah and sing on her show.  His voice Maria said, "was like an angel."  Paul was given a recording contract with a gospel recording company for a CD which will be produced by Maria Carey.  Way to go Paul, I am so proud of you.  Ladies and gentleman, dreams do come true, but you gotta want it bad enough to take action and work hard to get it.  Paul has been singing since he was a wee squirt.  He took decisive action.  Hana Hou Cousin!   Roy and Laurie Robins are Paul's parents.  Roy and I grew up together in Ma'ili, we share many "hana budda days stories.  Laurie used to live in Spokane, Washington.

MASTERING THE ART OF LIVING

Cultural Enrichment Mana'o(thoughts)
By Nani Aki Linder

                                        What are Kapu's?

Kapu for Kanaka Maoli Hawaiians mean, sacred or forbidden.  This can mean sacred ancestors, documents, dances, ceremonies.  It means we do not speak of this outside of the circle.  For the Native Indian it means sacred as well.  We have puli, pahu, auana, oli's (chants) most of which are Kapu.  When you see dancers in Hawaii performing, they are doing dances meant for tourists, party, celebration or visits. The Kumu (teacher) celebrates and teaches the dance at her Halau and dancers belong to a Hula Halau.  The Kumu spends years learning the ancient dance including those that are Kapu.  I was privileged to learn from the talented Kumu Kuulei Clark, (who gave me my nod as a Hula Kumu).  I learned as well from my Mother Kuulei Aki, my Tutu Hattie kealikolani Robins (who traveled, sang and danced with Lena Machedo known in Hawaii as "the song bird of Hawaii) who learned from our Great Grandmother Mary Pai Keali'i auka'i Robins.  Our great grandmother is well know for her mele's such as Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Mauna lahi lahi, Honolulu Harbor, Leahi to name a few.  The blood of the ancients run through our veins and breaking of any Kapu is non-negotiable  Paul Robins who is featured in the congratulations article, is a great great grandson of Mary Pai Keali'i au ka'i Robins.

Never, never, never, never, never, ever break a sacred trust or Kapu.  There are cultural consequences for breaking Kapu's.  If you don't understand the culture that is okay.  It is always polite to respect anything you do not understand. We ask that all remember this when visiting a Hawaiian or Indian sacred site.  Go.  Show respect. Make your offering.  Remove NOTHING from the site.

                                 Can you conquer suffering?

When human beings see themselves as creating then there is no need to destroy, conquer, control or possess.  In this state of "I am being" you learn to stop suffering by simple open awareness.  Meaning you "learn to be."  Hint:  Just because you are awakened or enlightened, it doesn't necessarily mean you are awake.  Read this again, it is important to grasp.

Let's use the White Wolf and my Kelli Kat as examples...............Both follow instinct. They have no people language or the thinking capacity of humans.  They kill only to eat.  They eat and drink water to stay alive.  A Wolf does wolf things just like my cat Kelli does cat things.  Both hunt to eat.  Neither animal can think as humans nor do they have contemplative or cognitive skills.  Thus, neither sits around and thinks, feels or says, "Wow I was really a bad wolf/cat today.  I laid around, didn't do my chores, didn't take care of my cubs/kittens, made a big mess in the den and caused the other wolves/cats to shun me.  Gee maybe I should go see a wolf/cat psychologist and see if they can help me improve my self-image.  I am a bad White Wolf/Cat."

So after seeing a psychiatrist the White Wolf and Kelli Kat might improve their behavior.  So the dialogue might go "Man I was one courageous Wolf/Cat today, I stood up and protected the weak animals.  I followed my diet.  I shared my food.  I exercised!  Damn, I am one heck of a terrific Wolf/Cat.  Hi paw for me!  If the animal kingdom had human thinking, cognitive skills etc. they would express "thought & feelings" just as we do.  Are ya getting it?

The example may appear simple or silly but take time to reflect on yourself, your life and the choices you make daily from a thinking and feeling view.  Then see if it is possible to conquer suffering.

Next month we shall expand further I would invite you to consider doing the thinking action exercise below.  Know that you are loved.  You are unique, one of a kind special human.  Seeds of greatness await your nurturing.  This is your life, enjoy it!

                       Action Exercise For March 2005:

A man who controls his thoughts may be seeking a path to enlightenment.

How do you do this?  Everyday for the next month do the following.  (okay take Saturday and Sunday off)  Pick a quiet room with a white wall (white sheet or towel will work) just so you are looking at this white space.  Take a chair and place it so you are facing the white wall.  Make sure there are no distractions or noise.  You are to sit in the chair relaxed, feet touching the floor, no slouching or reclining and look at the white wall.  Let your mind wander at will for about 5 minutes.  Next begin to clear your mind, slowly methodically make your mind as blank as the white wall.  Close your eyes gently, visualize a shimmering white room. Focus on the shimmering white room, nothing else!  Breath 5 counts breath in 7 count breaths out.  Keep your eyes gently closed.  The object is to begin the process of mastering your thoughts.  Don't worry if you can do it for only a minute or two.  That is normal.  Do this everyday, same time, same 15 minutes a day.  If you are having trouble with this exercise, email me and I will give you other tips.  You must practice everyday and master this technique before we can proceed.  Next week, we will go further.  Email me if you tried this and tell me how you did. nani@universityoflife.info

                                              Spring and Summer Tips;

This is meant for educational information and not medical advise.  I received #1

from a friend recently and its worth passing on to you.

1.  Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim
may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the
symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a
stroke by asking three simple questions:

*Ask the individual to SMILE.

*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

*Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE.

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately
and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

2.  In our zest for spring cleaning we often forget that floor chemicals and crawling babies are not very compatible.  Also small pets.  Since they are close to the floor they can inhale allot of toxins from chemicals.  Use water for moping floors, that works very well.  Read labels. a steam cleaner kills germs quite nicely so you might consider throwing out the chemicals in favor of one.

3.  Scatter rugs are easy to slip on and cause nasty falls for babies and elder folks.  At the head of stairs is particularly dangerous.  Have you checked your house lately?

4.  Be sure your youngsters can swim if you go to the pool or beaches. There are arm inflatable that are easy to put on your child.  Remember beaches have currents and undertows.  Rivers are silty and can pull even a strong swimmer down.  Never turn your back on children at the waters edge, it only takes a split second for them to fall in.

5.  Teach your children to respect the handicapped rest areas and bathrooms.  Often people with disabilities have nerve damage and cannot wait as long as you can.  They often wait long in a line because they are waiting for the ONE STALL reserved for them.  It is always impolite to use a handicapped facility if you see them come in.  If you are a business owner, do not install baby diaper changing tables in the handicapped restroom.  That makes the waiting even longer.  Respect is the key word here.  Require your employees to use the regular stalls and not the handicapped one.

Continuing with our Tip Sheet series we add three new tidbits of hope which we invite you to reflect on, take what you need and discard the rest.

University Of Life Tip Sheet Series part 4

By Nanipuaaalaomaililaulii Aki Linder

1.  Fear of criticism causes many wonderful ideas to fail to see the light of day.  If you wish to eliminate fear, concentrate on courage.

2.  The process of elimination consists in raising above and beyond limitations of any kind.  Thinking beyond; It is therefore our business to express ourselves harmoniously and constructively.  For example, misery, unhappiness, disease, poverty are not necessities and so we are constantly eliminating them when we engage positive thinking.  Defend this position: How does it work?  The process of elimination consists in rising above and beyond limitation  of any kind.  Thinking deeper still:  YOU must want it to have it!  So identifying what "it" is you want (or not), is very important.

3.  When a mind becomes mature it understands that the GERM of defeat begins in every selfish thought!
