Comments From Our
Readers:
I loved your article on perception and
attitude and the story of your sister living here. I
would say to others "right here in Spokane I find one of the
wisest woman I have ever known. Nani Linder brings her
unique perspective to cultural issues from Hawaii -- a place
where in so many ways they have mastered the celebration of
cultural differences. She explains and challenges with
her unique style of story telling and never fails to cause me
to think deeply and, as a result, understand more
profoundly. She is one of Spokane's treasures!

I have lived in many parts of this country, and have seen and heard those who
showed prejudice towards others. We have all seen it over the years and it
continues to this day. I do think that it is idiotic to believe that just
thinking that using the in thing now, "Political Correct"
words will suffice. It takes more than words, it takes believing in your
fellow man, showing respect, and seeing the face of Jesus in their faces. For we
all are children of God.
God Bless, love from Rose
###
Nani, I'm addressing what I wanted to write to you about my feelings regarding your Newsletter. Some of the feelings this elderly third generation Polish woman had are feelings she's not proud of...whether they're just echoes of bigots among whom she was raised or just the fact that her lack of confidence made it so much easier to "join in" rather than stand her ground. Funny, it took a little girl who was put in day care 23 years ago, so that her mother could return to work, to teach her mother to "look beyond skin color" or "look beyond a less than perfect mastery of the English language" to accept the differences in others as assets rather than negatives. It's too bad that there are too many of us bigots in various pockets throughout the US who would rather join in instead of stand their ground. Your sister was witness to this. I've been bothered by the hurt you portray in your Newsletter. I wanted to ignore your message but found myself thinking and rethinking about what you said. I've come a long way from who I was. God bless you, Nani, for the good message you send out to us. Again, yours is such a simple wisdom that if we'd just stop looking so hard, we'd see the answer. I'm so happy to be among those that you consider as true friends. Love and hugs, Barbara from Pa.

"Nani's gift of straight talk mixed with compassion is part of what makes her such a powerful woman of hope. She commands a room with her presence. She interacts and facilitates an ongoing, open dialogue. I have yet to walk away from her without being profoundly moved by our interaction."

Some Thoughts on the Social Security
Debate By:
Nani Aki Linder - White Raven
Goodness the air
permeates with debate on Social Security. Will it be
there for younger generation? Who will get hurt the
most? What are personal accounts anyway? It's "ye
old pit one class of people against another trick."
I am disappointed with all the bickering by our elected
officials. With your permission I will share first hand knowledge on part of what the
President is speaking about as far as Personal Savings
Accounts. Federal employees are offered this
opportunity as a choice.
My husband Ron
spent 36 years (with his Military time) in Federal
government service. They started what was called TSP
accounts for employees and we were allowed to put in 2-4% of
salary every month as well as either social security or civil
service and Medicare. The TSP (personal savings
account) is voluntary and we had choices of
low-medium risk stocks, annuities etc. When Ron was
given early retirement, his retirement plan began. For
women worried that they will get left out as a spouse, the
government sent me a letter explaining that the lumpsum TSP
(separate from Ron's retirement) would not be turned over
to Ron with out my signature because I was his
spouse with rights of benefit. They told me
my options. I chose to sign a release and Ron
rolled his TSP into an IRA of his choice with myself as
beneficiary. It is building today separate from his
retirement. So when organizations come out and say women
will be left out or suffer the most, that is not my
experience. Indeed it is the exact
opposite.
Don't let anybody
tell you this can't work. Its been in the Federal System
for about 20 + years now and every Senator and
Congressman knows this. Its been working for a lot
of federal employees, including congress, so there is no
reason the proposal set by our President can't work for all
citizens if that is what you choose.
It doesn't
take rocket science to know Social Security is
headed for a train wreck. It is going to take
courage to fix it. Better to fix it now before our
grandchildren will have nothing, don't you
agree?

MASTERING THE ART OF LIVING By Nani Aki
Linder

Exploring the possibilities in Improving vs.
Changing!
Consider the
following possibilities.
Humans are not good at change,
they get comfortable right where they are so the perception
is, "if it isn't broke don't fix it!" Are you with me so
far?
Let's try an approach that often
works for me and is what I teach. See improvement in living as the
way to move forward rather than change. Why? Change implies bringing
all the baggage of the past in moving on. It means
letting go of "stuff", listening to the voices of your youth of
the you cant's, shouldn't, are you
kidding me", that fills our psyche with
negative energy. We end up
fighting not just the desire to change but
the voices that have haunted as to why we can't. See why change is
exhausting?
Thinking
deeper; when you decide to make select
choices of improvement in living you bring
only yourself and the "definite intent" of your being
front and center. Defending
this
prognosis; change has two
responses either reactive or
response.
Reactive meaning, looking for
what's wrong. Response meaning, Looking for what's right. See the
difference! Subtle change, major shift to moving
forward.
A statement that I heard quite
often when I was a Sales Director in Mary Kay Cosmetics was, "my spouse
is not supportive, he thinks I am changing and he doesn't like
it." Sound
familiar?
Here is my
answer:
If you are a female know that it takes a very
secure man to live
with a female with a dream, especially if it is a
huge dream.
If you are a male, females draw financial lines and
clear boundaries for the safety of their family, marriage and
home. Now that you know this, keep your spouses in the
loop and everything transparent. Seek their counsel,
make decisions based on the "we" covenant you made on your
wedding day. See through your spouses eyes and you show
them to see through yours.
thinking
deeper: Make time for cherishing each
other. Share the improvements in life and living that
your adventure is producing.
"Yesterday people aren't moving forward!" unknown
Knowledge is a result. Going
backward is a result. Incomplete is a result.
Begin every task with the "intent to
finish" Why? So you do not get caught in
the circle of repeat.
Read this section again,
it is important to grasp.

Continuing with our Tip Sheets series we add
five new tidbits of hope which we invite you to ponder.
University Of Life Tip Sheet Series part
3
By Nanipuaaalaomaililaulii
Aki Linder
1. "Plan
to have abundance, enough to eat, place to live,
a flowing abundance of money to take care of your bills
and help others in need for the rest of your life because
you are worthy and deserve the best life has to offer." What you think about you bring about is universal law!
2. Say everyday; "I am whole, perfect, strong, loving, happy and harmonious and I can be what I will to be!" Say it out loud..........These are universal truths.........Say it everyday and claim these truths that Creator meant for you.
3. Thoughts become things! Remember the saying, "be careful what you wish for?" Thought is energy, so remember daily to tell yourself what you do want or you will continue to get all the don'ts.
4. Visualization is an important component of U of Life & Hope.
5. Whatever you do, wherever you go remember to give thanks to Creator for the morning as it unfolds with yet to be experienced adventure. Give thanks for the lessons one is to learn at this moment in time. For all that you are and have. Lift all creatures human and animal alike for blessings from above. Bless those you consider enemies, leave no one behind. Fill the air with positive energy so that others who are weary may pause and awash themselves in your gift of hope. At sunset give thanks for the grace and abundance of the day and lift your petition for a restful night.
What we share are timeless truths. As always my friends you are free to accept or reject anything we share.

Please check and make sure you
have your own homeland security survival supplies in case of
emergency. I would recommend knowing where your water
will come from and food. Have some rice and beans spices
and soup mix for flavoring, dried fruit, canned milk for
babies. Flashlight and lots of batteries, camping
equipment cleaned and matches in case you need to cook
outdoors. Have a family plan and where to meet in case
you get separated. Know if you have relatives close
by. Store supplies for your pets if you have some.
Medication should be handy and a first aid kit would be an
essential. Keep your gas tank filled and an extra
gas can filled in the winter. Be alert to the weather
and changes in the behavior of the animals around you.
The earth is experiencing many changes, be alert but do not
fear. Creator is near by, be sure to say thank you at
your sunrise and sunset. Know that you are
cherished.
